The Transportation Unit consists of five full-time officers supervised by the Corrections Administrative Lieutenant. There are eight vehicles used to accomplish the duties of the unit. Two of the vehicles are 12-passenger vans with passenger areas divided into 3 separate compartments. This provides a means of separating male and female inmates as well as keeping violent inmates separate from non-combative inmates.

This unit transports approximately 330 inmates each month to and from medical facilities, courts, prisons, and other law enforcement agencies. It also bears the responsibility for assuring that all proper documentation accompanies any transported inmates, whether they are coming to our facility or leaving from it.

The transportation supervisor is responsible for placing detainers on prisoners in other jurisdictions and insuring that legal and proper documents are in hand to take custody of any prisoners.

Some of our transportation officers have been trained in the high risk, high security transport of prisoners.

Transportation personnel work long hours and are faithful and dedicated employees who do an outstanding job in a very busy unit.
