Our mission is to provide a safe environment for inmates, employees, and the public by well-trained officers of high integrity.  Our goal is to set an example by treating our fellow man with dignity and respect, while being firm, fair, and consistent.

The Corrections Division is comprised of 114 employees separated into two sub-divisions.  The Administrative Division consists of food service, medical, training, commissary,  and all inmate programs.  The Operations Division is made up of the officers assigned to four shifts that care for the inmate population twenty-four hours a day, the Special Operations Response Team, and the Transportation unit that completes all required transports of inmates in our custody, as well as retrieving prisoners from across the country who are to be
brought in for appearances before the Sullivan County Courts.

The Jail presently has a bed capacity of 625, with an average daily population of 574 inmates.  We book in an average of 6,500 inmates per year.

Presently there are several phases of construction still in the planning stages.  When they are completed, our bed capacity will be raised to over 1,000.  There are plans for a new intake area, sally port, medical wing, laundry area, and kitchen.  These areas are being designed to service an inmate population consistent with the numbers projected for the next five years.  As we plan for expansion, we are considering new ideas that will allow us to control more inmates with fewer personnel than the present jail allows.

One of the latest construction projects completed is the new jail extension, a 240-bed fully self-contained facility.  This facility was designed to operate with a minimal amount of staff, and is proving to successfully fulfill that intention.

We are excited and looking forward to this year, implementing new and innovative ways to carry out the duties of the Corrections Division.

The Corrections staff strives to consistently perform an essential function with efficiency and professionalism.
