Joey Strickler
Criminal Investigations Captain
The SCSO Criminal Investigations Division consists of two supervisors, a Captain and Lieutenant Detective, one Administrative Assistant, and twelve investigators. Two investigators are full-time Child Physical/Sexual Abuse investigators, one is a full time Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault investigator, one is assigned to the Sex Offender Registry (part-time), and one investigator works in conjuction with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force; two are certified Fire/Arson investigators, three are Post Bomb Blast certified; two are certified in operating the Computer Voice Stress Analysis system, and one is a certified Tennessee Gang investigator.

In addition to these specialized areas, the investigators are also assigned other cases including offenses from thefts to homicides. Two investigators are assigned to the Bristol CID office, and four are assigned to the Kingsport CID office. This enables the public to have easier access to the investigators.

In addition to the Criminal Investigators, four investigators are assigned to the Narcotics/Vice Division, working cases involving drug activity, prescription fraud, and beer board checks.

In the Criminal Investigations Division, the Captain and/or Lieutenant review all reports and assign cases to the investigators. They assist the investigators as needed. They perform monthly case reviews and assist in case management.

Our newly implemented Violent Crime Response Team includes five crime scene personnel. The Team has a Violent Crime Scene Vehicle equipped with all types of forensic/evidence collection and preservation equipment. The Team investigates all types of violent crimes including rapes and homicides.

The goal of the Criminal Investigation Division is to insure that our detectives are properly trained in all aspects of criminal investigation and to guarantee that the public can rely on us to solve cases and halt criminal activity in the local communities.
