Must be a citizen of the United States, be at least 21 years of age, be of good moral character, pass physical/psychological exam, and successfully complete a 168 hour training academy (conducted by the Sullivan County Sheriffs office). The SCSO Reserve Unit currently has a membership of 37 people. The Reserves provide services to the public at no cost to the county by assisting in the following divisions:

Patrol Division
Criminal Investigations Division
Fugitive Apprehension Unit
Corrections Division
Security for special events (Bristol Motor Speedway, Fun Fest, etc.)

Reserves volunteer approximately 700-1,100 hours per month. Each officer is required to work eight hours each month and successfully complete 40 hours of in-service training annually. The Reserve Unit is available to any division needing assistance.
